Middle school teachers must have a bachelor’s degree and license or certification. Many states require teachers to major in a content area and some states may require middle school teachers to earn a master’s degree as well. A teacher preparation program and supervised experience in teaching, usually student teaching, is another requirement. States typically require candidates to pass a general teaching certification test and a test that demonstrates their knowledge of the subject they will teach. An alternative route to certification for people who already have a bachelor’s degree but don’t have the education courses required for certification are offered in all states across the US. These programs cover teaching methods and child development. Candidates are awarded full certification once they finish their program. Middle school teachers should have excellent communication skills, be patient, and resourceful. Experienced teachers can become mentors to new teachers as they advance in their teaching career. And as their career advances, they can also take on different roles with additional education and certification. Are you ready to be a middle school teacher? Start your training today!
